About this item:
- This backpack is made for multiple days hiking or trekking in autonomy. You can carry everything you need to camp, drink and eat on your back with comfort.
- The MT500 AIR only weighs 3.8 lbs and can contain a total volume of 55 liters which we recommend for a trip over 2 weeks long. The top of the bag is adjustable and can hold an extra 10 liters of volume.

The backpack lasted for several trips, fabric ok, zippers ok, but... until the main clasp (waist) broke. THEY DO NOT HAVE SPARE PARTS nor do they give a guarantee for that... that is to say... the backpack "died", other brands give a lifetime guarantee.
Very practical and comfortable, the net is a real comfort to avoid sweating and the wet t-shirt which makes you cold, limits this feeling of cold during exercise. In practice, easy to use and sufficient in capacity
The backpack is great, the only thing I can criticize is the bottle pocket - it needs to be low and wide and is only on one side. I would much rather have something that can fit an average bottle on both sides, because the 2 pockets on the backpack for water (each holds a 1.5 - 2 l bottle) are very difficult to access (you have to take the backpack off your back and if the backpack is full, it is a bit of a struggle to dig out the bottles). Otherwise, it is really comfortable and just the right size.
Easy to fill
It's a bit hard to carry and has too many pockets, it's quite complicated. But it's of good quality and sturdy.
I hiked the GR-5 route for 12 days with this backpack. Very good fit that is easy to adjust to everyone's back length. Super many compartments to store everything.

Comfort and good compartmentalization.
He has now been on three backpacking trips of several weeks each and you can't really tell. I think the layout is good. I don't think it's 100% comfortable on my hips for long periods of wear, but I didn't buy it for hiking either and I made the compromise for the price. For shorter journeys at airports, train stations and to hostels etc. it's enough for me. The only things that annoy me a bit: the lid compartment is quite small, so you can't really store much in it if the main compartment is full to the top. If the straps for the lid compartment were a bit longer, you could pack more flexibly here. And the pocket at the front is open at the top without a zipper, but at the same time it's relatively wide. If the backpack has to be on its side, things fall out easily. So the most I pack in there are tissues.
Perfectly adjustable, very practical with its multiple pockets and compartments
I couldn't get used to the front zipper. New generation bags are probably like this. It is used by placing the bag in a horizontal position and then compressing the perlons. After placing it, it does not stand upright without support due to the inability to adjust the center of gravity related to the back system and waist connection design (maybe I couldn't do it). Generally affordable in terms of price. It is great to have a raincoat etc. Comfortable to carry on the back. There are enough adjustment points.

The backpack is simply great. I hiked through Peru with it for a month and it does what it promises.

Capacity
The bag has a 55 L volume with an extra 10 L extension. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.

Air design
As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.

Recommended carry weight
According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 15 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.
How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.
How to use the multi-use straps?
The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this. The can also be detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.
Female body shape
Our women's models are adapted to the female shape (chest and hips). The shoulder straps are more open and the waist fitted higher for greater comfort and freedom of movement.
Product testing
All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter. To test, assess and validate products, our mission test connects the product manager responsible for the product design with individuals independent to DECATHLON. This backpack was tested by trekkers for 5 weeks in the Canary Islands, the Pyrenees and the Mont Blanc mountain range.
