About this item:

  • This backpack is made for multiple days hiking or trekking in autonomy. You can carry everything you need to camp, drink and eat on your back with comfort.
  • The MT900 ULTRALIGHT only weighs 2.9 lb and can contain a total volume of 50 liters which we recommend for a trip under 2 weeks long. The top of the bag is adjustable and can hold an extra 10 liters of volume.
  • This backpack has plenty of features if you are looking for a lightweight technical option at a great price: AIR concept back ventilation, rain cover, water bottle holder, hiking poles holder, 7 pockets and a compartment for a water bladder for easy hydration.
  • The AIR concept: in order for your back to dry faster, we added a mesh on top of a ventilated structure. Ideal for long and sweaty day hikes from one camp to another !
  • This is a men's backpack: This bag has been conceived for a masculine morphology (torso and hips). We recommend to consider the users physical morphology when you choose a bag for comfort purposes when carrying it on your back.

ALWAYS ON TOP BAG…

ALWAYS AT THE TOP LARGE AND EASY TO USE BAG, CARRIES WELL ON THE BACK

Very good backpack

This backpack is light, carries weight very well and has a handy shape. The net on the back also prevents that no objects are felt in the backpack.

The side pocket for water bottles is quite difficult to grab when carrying. When filled to capacity, there is a creaking sound when walking sometimes.

He keeps his promises!

I was looking forward to testing this new MT900 UL. Bought the day before yesterday, first "analysis" the same day and first outing yesterday! No feedback yet on the resistance, but at first glance, it keeps its promises, even if two or three small things can still be improved to gain in comfort/solidity/weight: 1) Why have you placed the rain cover in the inside pocket of the flap? It would be better placed in a bottom pocket (which also protects and cushions the bottom of the bag when you put it down) 2) Why "knotted" rather than sewn closing straps? 3) The waist strap pockets are huge, almost disproportionate! 4) The string that acts as a compression strap: first, I find that it is less effective/strong than classic straps, then I feel that it will quickly annoy me to have this little piece of string that swings on each side... 5) The small straps that allow you to attach an element outside under the bag. In itself, a good practical idea. In reality, useless for those who do not have use for them (I hesitate to cut them). It would be better to provide attachment loops, either large enough to pass our own straps through, or with, for example, removable straps supplied as an accessory... 6) The small strap with a snap button that allows you to "secure" the closure at the top of the riser is of no interest! 7) In parallel with remark 5, and the biggest downside in my eyes, the double pull tab for the side opening: it is not at all secure in its lower part. With the result that it could open during a hike (snagging on a branch, bad joke or pickpocket in a public place, etc.). In addition, I have doubts about the waterproofness of this zipper (I am talking about the clasp in its lower part). That said, I salute the work of the designers who imagined this bag! My remarks are intended to be constructive and not critical ;-) Looking forward to the 2026 edition ;-)

Almost a masterpiece

Very comfortable backpack and very light for its capacity. The back of the backpack is made of mesh, so the back dries quickly when sweaty. Lots of possibilities for tying up equipment. Several practical pockets and a key hook. The backpack is unzipped almost along its entire length, which makes access to its contents much easier. Unfortunately, only in one color version. Others would be useful.

Hitchhiking too

Used for a hitchhiking trip and everything is ok

Good capacity, practical and…

Good capacity, practical and ergonomic, ok weight, small pockets and great hip support. Straps much too long and slight creaking due I think to the weight (no more than 12kg)

returned product

The metal back frame presses on the shoulder blades when the bag is loaded. Despite all the adjustment tests, I preferred to part with this bag which hurt me. Too bad because it is also well designed for long-distance hiking.

Very good lightweight backpack

Good, light backpack. Everything seems very well thought out. Not a real ultra-light product, but a good compromise between weight, comfort and durability at a fair price. Can be easily adjusted to my height (1.91).

Air design

Inspired by its sister, the MT500 AIR, this bag replicates many of the features of its ventilated back structure with a mesh fabric so that the back can breathe more and dry quickly.

Capacity

50 L volume +10 L extension. The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method. we use small balls to fill the main compartment as well as each pocket. The balls are then emptied into a graduated container in order to determine the equivalent volume in litres, with a margin of error of just a few %.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.

How to use the multi-use straps?

The new MT500 AIR and MT900 UL series of trekking backpacks have two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this or detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.

Complementary accessories

To make your MT900 UL bag easier to use, check out our storage accessories, repair buckles or hanging straps on our website.

Recommended carry weight

According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 12 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.

Materials

Main fabric in 100D RS polyamide (ripstop = additional resistance to tearing), reinforced bag bottom (210D RS)

Product testing

All our backpacks are field-tested by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. In particular, our Test Missions bring together the product manager with people who are not affiliated with DECATHLON to test, improve and validate the products. This particular model was tested over a five-week period by trekkers in the Canaries, Pyrenees and the Mont-Blanc mountain range.
