Questions & Answers

Question:

I'm confused about the torso lengths for this?

Answer:

When choosing the size of a hiking backpack, it’s important to take into account your body shape. The backpack size should be adapted to your back. It’s measured from the base of your neck to your hips and the grip of the stomach strap should be comfortable on your hips. How to accurately measure your torso for optimal backpack fit? To ascertain this crucial measurement, enlist the help of a friend and have a pliable tape measure on hand. Bend your head forward and locate the bony protrusion where your shoulder slope meets your neck—the 7th cervical (C7) vertebra, marking the top of your torso length. On either side of your body, run your hands down the ribcage to the apex of your hip bones (known as the iliac crest). Align your index fingers forward and your thumbs backward, creating an imaginary line between them. The point on your lumbar region where this line intersects is the base of your torso measurement. Maintain an upright posture, and ask your friend to measure the distance between the C7 and the imaginary line formed by your thumbs. This measurement constitutes your torso length.

An affordable backpack with many features

A relatively inexpensive backpack, very popular, has many interesting solutions, is quite light and adapted to the body shape. We'll see how it will be with the durability of the zippers.

very good hiking bag

very good hiking bag - practical for hikes lasting several days

Great bag once it's set up properly. Used it to walk from Porto to Santiago (Camino), with more or less 12 kgs. Looking forward to using it again for the next hiking holiday in northern Spain. A sixty-year-old from Canada.

Very nice fittings and lightweight

Durable, practical, comfortable!

I used it on a 1-week high mountain hike to store 3-4 liters of water per day, rain gear, extra jacket, and snacks. It's very comfortable, I barely felt the 7-8 kg weight I was carrying all day. Practical little pockets, you can pack everything and take it off quickly. Ideal size. Great backpack. Although it's officially a couple of centimeters longer than a cabin bag, there were no problems on the deck, it fits perfectly in the airport overhead bin.

The bag is beautiful, has good back support, and has many compartments. I like that it has a zipper to open the front, making it convenient to organize things.

Perfect for people over 1m50

It's perfect, pockets everywhere and very light. My only problem is that I'm 1m48 and adjusting it to the smallest size constantly makes the top touch my head and I can't extend my neck, which is a bit uncomfortable on a long journey. But until I find a more suitable one that doesn't break the bank... it will last me for many years.

The backpack is suitable for trekking and backpacking trips. It's just a pity that the capacity is not as large as I want to be able to hold more things. 😅

I recommend

For me, as someone who is 163 cm tall, the backpack is ideal. The multitude of pockets allows you to pack by "category", which is helpful when you need to quickly get something out.

A great backpack for a longer trip

I bought the backpack second-hand in perfect condition. I used it during two month trips. It survived a lot of loading and unloading during travel by bus, motorcycle, boat, ferry, plane, tuk-tuk, also on roofs. Constant unpacking and packing, when you only spend one night in a given place and move on. It has many pockets, is very roomy, and all the elements - buckles, zippers, cords are both light and durable. The outer material is very durable, also when the backpack slipped under the wheels of the motorcycle, there was no major damage. It adapts quite well to the figure. I am incredibly happy with this backpack. The only downside - you can't wash it in the washing machine.

The gourd does not hold…

The bottle does not stay in place. The pole attachment is not practical.

Air design

As with the MT900 UL line, the MT500 AIR range has a ventilated back structure with mesh fabric (net fabric) that helps the back to breathe and dries quickly. Rigidity is guaranteed by a reinforced frame. The back is adjustable with a release strap that’s easy and quick to use.

Recommended carry weight

According to the project for which this backpack was designed, we recommend you don’t load it above 15 kg. Then you can benefit from all its features. Moreover, it’s not recommended to carry a load greater than 20-25% of your own weight and put too much pressure on your back.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Store your clothing around it. A groundsheet or tent can be placed under the flap or under the bag if there isn't room inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder can be placed in the compartment provided down the back.

How to use the multi-use straps?

The new range of MT500 AIR and MT900 UL bags has two straps with open aluminium buckles (on the lower part of the bag). These straps let you hook on a tent or mattress under the bag or on the barrel. If not in use, these straps can be stored (by pushing them inside) in the hidden pocket intended for this or detached and used elsewhere with the lark's head knot buckle.

Female body shape

Our women's models are adapted to their body shape (chest and hips) with a more open shoulder strap shape and a higher fitted belt for greater comfort and freedom of movement.

Product testing

All our backpacks undergo field tests by users who are representative of our target market under similar conditions to those you will encounter.
