I have never been a fan of down jackets and even less of sleeveless down jackets. I always thought it was a fashion because we see them everywhere. But since I am very chilly and I always wear 50 layers under my coat, I decided to buy a sleeveless down jacket, the advantage of which is that there is no extra thickness at the arms if I wear it under my long coat with rather tight sleeves. Since I am chilly, I wanted a warm one but without having to break my savings plan and have to choose between buying a house or a warm down jacket. I admit that I was delighted by its warm side even if I would have liked it to be even warmer. I appreciated its lightness and the fact that I feel good without explaining why. I feel that it keeps me warm and my view of down jackets has completely changed. It is very compact and in globetrotter mode it is great. The zipped pockets are super practical even if I would have liked inside pockets. The look is not totally neutral but hey, we are at Decathlon and not at Karl LAGERFELD... It is not ugly either like those that look like garbage bags. I dream of buying a very warm one with long sleeves... On the other hand, in terms of color, meh, meh. Fortunately there is a black one, sober because the other 2 are really for fishing or hunting! It is always painful to look for a technical garment that ticks all the boxes except the one relating to aesthetics. There is a way to do something technical and pretty or, failing that, sober, without falling into the cliché of khaki sticking to kuku or sand... Buy a down jacket at Célio because it is pretty or at Decat because it is very warm, made with real down and feathers: a sad Cornelian dilemma... Concerning water repellency, it is not great but I am perhaps not super objective. In any case, it quickly soaks up water in a good rain (just to go from the car to the tennis court).

Why wear a down gilet?
A gilet helps to keep the body warm. It protects the chest, neck and kidneys as these areas are especially sensitive to chills. It’s sleeveless so it saves weight in your backpack, provides even more breathability during exercise and excellent comfort of movement when worn under a jacket. Worn underneath the MT100 down jacket, it can provide 6°C extra warmth when compared to a down jacket worn without the gilet.
The advantages of a duck down and feather filling
The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports: - Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers- Ultra low weight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack- Ultra-compressible
Inflating power of down/feather filling
The fill power is a measure of the down fts thermal insulation capacity and its potential to InchtrapInch air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). So, down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this sleeveless down jacket, with its 85% down/15% feather filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 660 CUIN or more (international standard).

How to care for a down and feather gilet?
The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it will retain its thermal insulation and water repellency.Our advice: 1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin between 800 and 1000 rpm. 2/ - Tumble dry on cotton mode with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until dry.

The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping.Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! How to restore the water-repellent properties?
Once you have cleaned your padded gilet, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
