Very good jacket! Perfect for the hiker who wants to manage layers according to needs / seasons. Used in nature or mountain hiking, as a 2nd layer in cool weather (up to 4 ° with just thermal underwear), or 3rd layer in cold weather (down to -7 °), this jacket does the job perfectly. It is light, and well cut. The exterior pockets remain accessible, even with a backpack. It cuts the wind well, and in terms of water repellency or waterproofing, nothing to complain about for the moment. In terms of breathability, I find it correct, and the big plus is the zipped openings under the arms which allow perfect management during big efforts uphill for example. Best value for money that I have seen so far!
Last weekend I had the opportunity to test the Quechua MH500 jacket. First impression after contact with the jacket - high quality of workmanship. The jacket could easily cost a bit more than the current retail price (400 ziko) and yes, in my opinion it would be fine. Nothing sticks out, is not deformed, etc. I decided on the orange color - it looks beautiful in real life and in my opinion beats black in this respect. I took a size larger than I normally wear - I assumed that it would be used with layers. If I took a standard size (M) with a T-shirt and fleece, it would be a bit tight. I took it for trekking in the Jizera Mountains equipped with a long merino, a mid-layer, i.e. a fleece sweatshirt and this jacket. The first 2 hours were an ascent, so even the long without a mid-layer would have worked well here. After reaching the higher layers, we were already greeted by a strong wind. The temperature at the top was around -10 degrees, it felt a few degrees lower due to the wind, the constant snow and heavy cloud cover. During longer stops, you could feel a slight discomfort in terms of thermals. It wasn't a tragedy, but throwing on another layer helped. In the end, the jacket worked great - despite the constant rain, it didn't get wet, it insulated nicely from the wind due to all the regulations, etc. Would I decide to wear it at a lower temperature? I don't think so. But at minimum temperatures around 0 or even -5, I think I would without hesitation. So if someone is looking for this type of jacket at a good price, I can highly recommend it.
Lightweight, breathable and waterproof. A good option for visiting Costa Rica during the rainy season.
a jacket good for mountain trips in cold weather
Ideal for walks by the sea, protects well from wind and rain
Waterproof, yes... but not warm, it's a good idea to put a warm layer underneath in cool and/or windy weather. Lightweight: yes
perfect product whether in terms of style, for the outdoors and the city in case of wind or rain. This product is very well designed neither too loose nor too tight. insulating from rain and wind. Small defect in its quality it insulates so well that I am quite warm as soon as I wear a backpack with it. if it is the way to be insulated from the rain I accept it.
Excellent jacket for rain and wind. I also use it as a shell in the mountains over a fleece and the hood is very comfortable and well made
Excellent third/fourth layer, light, very waterproof and very breathable

Too bad the zipper on one of the pockets broke after a few uses
Excellent finish, super light and well built. I only got caught in light everyday rain, I hope my good review continues after some heavy rain.
Used three times, happy with the product.
I bought this jacket a month and a half ago and I use it occasionally in the city. After only 30-40 minutes in normal rain, not torrential, the water passes through and the down jacket starts to get waterlogged! For a jacket intended for hiking or heavy rain, I find this really unfortunate. I am very disappointed.
Rainwater doesn't seep in at all👍 awesome

Main component
3-layer component with membrane
Membrane
The waterproof rating of a product depends on the following two main criteria: its component and its construction. This product was made with a membrane. This is a kind of very thin plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being flexible, lightweight and breathable.
Layer design
3 layer design: The membrane is glued between the outer and inner fabric. We use it for durable and high-performing jackets
Component waterproofing
Laboratory tests are conducted to guarantee the waterproof rating of a component. To this end, the resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm (JIS 1092 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. This product's component has a 25,000 mm waterproof rating and can withstand the pressure of a 25,000 mm water column. This is also equivalent to 25000 Schmerbers.
Water resistance of the jacket
We conduct laboratory tests that simulate rainfall scenarios in order to guarantee the jacket's waterproof rating. This garment has been validated in a shower test under 18 cm rain for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a mountain storm.
Breathability
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabricRET ≤ 12: breathable fabricRET ≤ 20: not very breathable fabric This product was assessed at 6 RET
How to restore the water-repellent properties
A fabric is water repellent when it allows water slide over its surface without seeping in. The fabric does not soak up water and therefore remains lightweight and breathable. The water repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. The water-repellent property can be reactivated by putting the jacket in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes on low heat. You can also use the waterproof spray (ref 8554908)
Product testing
Our Decathlon Sportslab laboratory, based in Lille, also contributes to the innovation and development of our Quechua products. As well as numerous field tests, we test products in a laboratory according to the desired properties (e.g.: shower test for waterproofness, wind tunnel test for windproof properties, etc.).
