Hiking shoes

Perfect for rainy days. It keeps you warm and I recommend it not only for hiking. It's very comfortable and not ugly, which is surprising. I recommend it

They are very hard

They are very hard shoes and every time I wear them they rub all over me. A bad purchase for me.

Fab walking shoes

I bought these as I was walking a 21 mile charity walk and I have found them to be really comfortable while doing my training walks with a lot of support for my feet. I've had a few walks in pretty awful weather and, although other areas may have got very wet, my feet were bone dry so they are definitely waterproof! I would very much recommend these.

Disappointed with the new version

A loyal intensive user of the old model for years, I took the new model without trying it.... I have 2 problems with the new one: 1) when I walk, it sends back into my calf and the back of the foot what is on the ground (rainwater, sand...) so sand directly into the shoe (on terrain where I have already been with the previous version but never had this problem). Cut of the sole to be reviewed?... 2) the back cut of the shoe at the opening is higher than the previous one, and hurts me in an area where my skin is fragile. I need the low back cuts (but a shoe close to the foot...). combined with point 1 and an overall rigidity, it is too uncomfortable and the injuries appear.... I will not be able to wear them and I have to look for another model. Overall, the impression is that the quality has gone down (to match the price?), and that it is more rigid (the previous one was a slipper while holding up very well in technical terrain). I mourn the old model.... This shoe remains good value for money and the old one behaved very well on technical and muddy terrain, don't hesitate.

I didn't have...

I didn't have the opportunity to test the waterproofness of the shoes, otherwise I am very satisfied.

Oh well

Well, my pair wasn't waterproof and despite being broken in for weeks, they weren't suitable for the Camino de Santiago. My feet got sweaty and I got blisters. What a pity.

Sturdy shoes

I used them for the first time while trekking in Wales and they have been doing well ever since. +/- Fairly waterproof - they didn't get wet in light rain and when walking in shallow puddles. With a heavier one, the sock was damp. The shoes take quite a long time to dry. + Very good grip, even in the rain +/- quite comfortable + Interesting design, they look more like Adidas than trekking shoes + Light - the size is a bit strange, maybe a bit too wide for me. 38 were too small, 39 a bit too big, but I took them and they work fine with a rough sock.

Very happy with the choice of footwear

Waterproof and very comfortable. I used them for the first time as everyday footwear when visiting a city where I knew it was going to rain and they were a very good choice. Dry feet after raining for most of the day, and very comfortable. I wear my own insoles and I was able to put them in the shoes without any problems. Definitely recommendable.

Very satisfied with these…

Very happy with these shoes. I hike every week with them. I don't sweat. Good ankle support. Good quality for the price.

shoes not comfortable enough

really disappointed by this new look of the MH 500. I had two pairs with the old look, very comfortable, slippers. And there, new look, big blisters on the back from the first outing! I am disgusted, I bought with my eyes closed, I trusted thinking that they were as comfortable as the old ones. very disappointed with my purchase!

Trekking shoe

Super comfortable shoe for leisure hiking and holidays

Almost perfect

For me as a dog owner, it is extremely important to be able to walk across a field without getting wet socks and this shoe does that brilliantly. Even in summer the grass is soaking wet. If you are worried that it is too warm, I can reassure you. I have been using the shoe several times a day since April, regardless of the weather. In short, I pray that it is never taken out of the range. I will definitely buy it again!

What frequency and intensity of hiking?

We have classified our products in terms of performance and features for 3 levels of Mountain Walking:- occasional: around ten hikes per year of about 3 to 4 hours’ duration, less than 6.2 miles and less than 2,297 feet of elevation gain.- Regular: about 20 outings per year. 4 to 6 hours, 6.2 to 12.4 miles, 2,297 to 3,937 feet of elevation gain per outing.- Intensive: more than 20 times a year. More than 6 hours, more than 12.4 miles, 3,937 to 6,561 feet of elevation gain per outing.

Outdoor contact sole

New high-performance sole with our new exclusive rubber blend developed by our experts. More grippy, more durable. The sole is designed for better grip using 3D simulations and then laboratory tested to assess the coefficient of grip on different surfaces and conditions. Field tests in the mountains allow us to do the final validation with a panel of testers.

Waterproofing test

In a laboratory, the boot is immersed in water to mid-height on a mechanical arm that flexes to simulates a number of steps. With this test we can determine a time and number of km that the boot can walk while staying dry. Then we confirm in the field or under the rain, that the shoe meets its promises.

Extended waterproofing

To keep your feet dry, we advise you to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter to protect the top of your boots and prevent water, pebbles and sand from getting in.We advise re-waterproofing your boots twice a year using a re-waterproofing agent (search for ‘waterproofing’ on our Decathlon website) which will help you restore the original water-repellent qualities and help prevent stains on the outside.

Product design: our expertise

Our Quechua global design center is based in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie. This location makes it a real meeting place for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc) and outdoor sports enthusiasts. A great asset for designing your mountain walking products and providing you with all our expertise.

Which size should i select?

The most important thing is to try on several sizes and styles of boots to find the one most suited to you! You can take a size above your usual one to prevent the toes from bumping into the toe box when going downhill, provided the foot is properly supported to avoid friction.Tip: keep your toenails short and, before a long descent, check that your lacing is tight enough to prevent your foot from sliding forwards inside the boot.

Buying tipshow to try on your shoes?

Some Decathlon stores have a test route.1. Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. 2. Tighten the laces, taking care to correctly balance the tightening.3. Check two points:- the heel does not come up before the boot when you walk uphill.- the foot does not slide and the toes do not press against the front when going downhill.4. Try on several sizes and models.Break them in gradually to adapt them to your foot.

How to prevent blisters

Blisters generally develop when the skin is weakened by friction. In order to prevent them from occurring, we recommend the following: - Choose a shoe in your size.- Wear suitable socks- Tie and tighten your shoes properly.- Don’t hesitate to readjust your lace fastening during activity, particularly before tackling a climb or descent. - Wear your shoes on a short trip for the first use.

Which socks?

A waterproof shoe will be less breathable than a non-waterproof shoe. Socks like the MH500, MH520 and MH900 with a medium upper are therefore preferable for wicking away perspiration and reducing friction.

Product testing

Our hiking shoes are first tested in our Decathlon Sportslab laboratory, based in Lille, which also contributes to the innovation and development of our Quechua products. It brings together several themes, each with their own area and technological tools.
