Excellent All Round Bike

Really impressed with this bike. Have just used for 3 day cycle from north to south Wales. Mainly off-road. Performed really well on some very rough tracks with no mechanicals. Chainset has good range so able to grind up big inclines as well as get decent drive down hills. Couple of excursions into bike parks where it was nimble and stable despite having panniers. Also use it for commuting and errands around London.

Lovely bike, appalling tyres puncture-magnet tyres

I love this bike, it;s beautiful to ride - But I've had it for three months now and I've had three punctures during that time - riding on London roads. And no - not glass, or nails. Each time it was a thorn that had gone straight through the tyre. For context I hadn't had a puncture in the last 4 years on my old hybrid. My local Decathlon didn't stock any alternative tyres it would "recommend" for the bike, so I guess I'm going to be visiting my local independent shops, looking for replacement tyres for a £1,000 bike, Sad.

Triban GRVL 520 Subcompact

It is too early to comment about this specific bike, but a similar Triban 520 (the road bike version bought in 2016), wheels aside, has been both reliable and cost-effective to own.

Best bike for the price. And Decathlon service is always excellent.

Great bike

The bike is excellent from many points of view. The thing I liked immediately is the comfort, the ease in finding a comfortable position immediately; it is a bike that is suitable for long rides and many kilometers without tiring. The brakes are really good, after the necessary break-in I can say that they brake without hesitation and the braking is well modulated. The road holding of the standard tires is good but, for those like me who come from MTB, it is necessary to gain confidence and learn to trust narrower tires. The gear change does its job but I found the adjustment of this set more complicated than it should be. The defect, if that is what it is, is the range of ratios that is too long. The 48/11 on flats allows you to travel quickly and without too much effort, on the other hand the 32/34 uphill, if you are not trained, is rather hard to push; on asphalt, on the slopes of road climbs, you can still climb based on your fitness level but on trails with double-digit slopes a shorter ratio would be very useful. The precise adjustment of the gear change, between the front and rear derailleur requires quite a bit of time, and despite everything on some changes between one sprocket and another I still find some uncertainty. In any case, a bike with an excellent quality/price ratio.

Very average quality bike

After a year of experience with this bike, I am a little disappointed with the quality. The first impressions were good. Rear wheel with a broken spoke, the bottom bracket to be changed after a year. Recurring infiltrations of impurities in the headset, the derailleur seems of very modest quality and lacks precision and I'm not talking about the brakes which are also of average quality. In short, if you start gravel it can do it but you will be forced to move to another quality if you persevere in your practice. In summary, a very average bike compared to the competition.

velo gravel

I have just ridden 19000km with my gravel bike (stony, sandy, earth, mud, tarmac tracks) for the price a good bike the groupset is great (except the brakes be careful) the wheels buckled every 3 rides then the rear wheel the spokes torn off changed under warranty but not the same model, buckled again so I bought a pair of Mavic no more problem chain changed at 10000km 2 pairs of front rear pads rear tires every 3000km before 4000km on the other hand no more paint on the head tube the casings rub not pretty I thank the Decathlon store Perpignan my 5th bikes and soon my 6th bikes and especially at CHRISTMAS top seller knows his job small although at the repair workshop mechanic not too friendly cordially

Gravel bike, very pleasant

Very nice bike. Strong point of the bike. The mechanical hydro brakes work very well. The road tires don't have too much friction, and allow you to ride at a good speed despite everything. Good grip on slightly greasy paths. Weak point. The paint is nice, but will have to keep an eye on it. In my opinion, it will get scratched very quickly. As for the store, a little disappointed, since I bought the bike with self-locking pedals as well as a bag and bottle cage, everything had been mounted, but I could not recover the original pedals which had been misplaced. And also the clips normally supplied with the pedals were missing, which I recovered since, I realized it when arriving at the car, a little disappointed also, I left the store with the bike to go back directly with it, the saddle adjustment was not offered the derailleur. As for it, it is also a little to be reviewed.

a little disappointed

Being between sizes, I opted to take the seller's advice and go down a size, but I was ultimately rather disappointed; the bike's size isn't suitable for long rides. After an hour, I started getting neck pain! If you're between sizes and go on long rides, go up a size. Unfortunately, I can't get a refund for the bike; the wheels have been replaced (that's the bike's only real flaw, but that's normal, as it's a fairly entry-level bike!)

Well at the beginning, after-sales service hell

Initially attracted by this bike as a replacement for an entry-level model, I quickly became disillusioned as the necessary maintenance increased. The brakes are a nightmare. If the system isn't perfectly adjusted (rarely the case after riding for a bit), the brakes stop working at all. It's not a pad problem, just that the brake housing has gone out of adjustment, and obviously oil has leaked onto the disc, which becomes contaminated. After having to change the brake disc twice, the workshop told me it would probably be a good idea to replace the braking system, as they didn't have a good reputation. So brakes + cables + installation = €300. I thought I'd done most of the work, until I changed the crankset. When it came time to change the cassette: customer service gave me a product reference, except that this reference wasn't compatible with the crankset; it wouldn't fit. The workshop is unable to order the correct part number, so the entire crankset also needs to be replaced. Except that the original crankset isn't available either; it needs to be upgraded from Praxis to Shimano. Be careful, the chainring sizes and therefore the gear ratios will be different... But the workshop responds, "Well, it doesn't matter, he's still riding the bike." Incidentally, you'll have to buy a new crankset and pay for the replacement just to replace the bottom bracket (+€150). In short, the bike as sold WILL need structural changes during after-sales service, and customer service doesn't care. It would be important to clearly warn customers: NO, spare parts are not available for this customer, contrary to what we indicate on the product sheet.

Purchase for Sunday cyclist

Very suitable for my occasional use even in the mountains. Wide handlebar at the bottom, hard to grip when going downhill.

Much more comfortable than my previous bike, which was made of steel. It makes a difference on rough roads. Behaves very well on a daily basis to carry my things for work or to do the groceries or other errands. I have done several 100-120 km rides on variable terrain without feeling too tired or uncomfortable. I do a lot of climbs in Gatineau Park. No worries, it can be done without even using the smallest chainring. The bike is very versatile. This is my first bike with disc brakes: especially in rainy weather it works better than my previous brakes. And it is much more pleasant when you have to remove the wheel. I hesitated for a long time before buying it and I have no regrets. I have no opinion on the saddle, which I immediately changed. The service at the Ottawa store workshop has been great in quality and also in speed the few times I have used it.
